This is an experiment

OK, so this is an experiment.

I am living an experiment in the sense that I don't know anyone who is blogging who lives, as I do, as an older person, with their family which makes us a three generation household.

So - that's potentially interesting.

How did it happen?

Step one was getting unwell quite suddenly, being in hospital for a short while and then moving out of hospital straight in with my younger daughter, her husband and their three sons (my grandsons).

I got rid of all my stuff except my books which are now in the double garage that my son in law converted into a watertight library with enough heating to keep the books from freezing in winter.

I have two outfits to wear.  These hang behind the door to my room.  I also have an expensive quilted cotton kimono-style dressing gown I bought online from gallery 196.

I buy everything online, because my illness hampers my breath so I am not very mobile.  I have a disabled badge for my car.

Here's a list:

The best hotel I have ever stayed in is Olga Polizzi's Hotel Tresanton in St Mawes.  I fetched up there after a tough sail from the west of Scotland on a classic sailing boat.

I also like the Westwood Marquis hotel in LA.

My favourite books include 'Diary of A Bookseller' by Sean Blythell and 'Diary of Two Nobodies' by Mary Killen and Giles Wood.

I use L'Occitane Almond shower oil.

I have the aforementioned houseplants for the quality of air in my room, where I spend most of my time.

I wake around 4.30/5.00am.  This is partly because I go to bed early - around 8pm.  I listen to the radio to send me to sleep.

I read most books now on my ipad or Mac Book Air.

At home, I have the same thing for breakfast every morning:  three slices of rye sourdough toast (I buy the sourdough bread from our local Tesco) with apricot jam and butter.  Last summer, I had a competition for the best apricot jam with entries from as far afield as Russia.  I usually have to make do with Bonne Maman Apricot which is fine.

I like going on holiday with the family, but they have warned me that this is coming to an end soon because they want some experiences without 'Nan' always being along.  That's fine by me.

This year, for Christmas we went to Morzine near Geneva.  There was no snow except quite far up the mountain.

I voted Leave.

We have a village shop but the pub is closed.

I go to U3A (University of the Third Age) local book groups, an environment group and a discussion group.

Two weeks ago, I had a virus - cough, cold etc - which I am just shaking off.

Portugal in March was chilly.  Sunny, but chilly.
